We must fight now to save the NHS

Callum Ward,

Alan L Ramsay, Executive Officer, Jobcentre Plus:

Common sense should dictate that frontline services are more important than ever during these difficult times. Cutting staff based in Jobcentres & other customer facing roles can only be done if we accept that services will disintegrate to the point of total failure, resulting in poorer service to the most vulnerable in society.

Pete Grubb, Branch Chair PCS Salford Revenue Branch

wendy, :

Implement the Tobin-(Robin Hood)-Tax; crack down on tax avoidance and evasion.

Public services are vital to a healthy and equitable society and should be valued, not penalised unfairly.

Roger Barlow, Liberal Democrat Candidate for Macclesfield:

In hard times, we need strong public services more than ever.

xxxxxxxx, Social care worker:

I've seen the effect that outsourcing can have. Public sector workers must be protected because they offer the best value for money and more importantly they care.

xxxxxxxx, Local authority worker:

Outsource and you get what you pay for, very often a sub-standard service. Public sector workers are unfortunately being used as an easy target in this election campaign. Cutting potentially thousands of local jobs is not the solution.

IAN ASHWORTH, TU REP DWP

Roy Wood, Lib Dem candiidate, Crewe & Nantwich:

We need to constantly find ways of cutting the cost of public services without damaging those services that we all, and particularly disadvantaged members of society, rely on.

David Cornwall, Ex President NASUWT:

The Public Sector is the mortar that holds society together - take it away or damage it and the structure of society is damaged.
Keep public services Publicly managed and accountable to all.

Harry Spooner, Branch Secretary, NASUWT Manchester:

I am proud to be a public servant, and to represent members in the public service. Dealing with sponsors of academies is bad enough. Imagine a world of "free" schools. Public services accountable to the public not shareholders.

Avis Gilmore, NW NUT Regional Secretary:

Public Services should not be provided by privateers seeking to make a profit and public sector workers should not be penalised for an economic crisis caused by investment bankers.

NUT members see the value of inclusive comprehensive education every day and oppose the privatisation of education by the introduction of academies and trust schools.

Peter Middleman, PCS, NW Regional Secretary:

PCS members in the north west are proud to serve the public in diverse ways including the delivery of criminal justice, benefits, tax credits, road safety, passports and border security.

We believe that such public services are best provided by well funded, democratically controlled and publicly accountable public servants working in the public sector.

The introduction of a profit motive, whether through PFI, PPP or full blown privatisation, undermines these principles and prevents staff from doing what they do best.

Rather than attacking public services or cutting public service jobs, terms and conditions, we call on the government to close the UK tax gap which currently allows £125bn a year in revenue to go uncollected, avoided or evaded.

Bill Williams, Activist - Salford & NW Region:

Absolutely committed to this campaign. The skewed opinion that public sector workers are an expensive luxury and are a major drain on the economy and a burden to the wealth creating sections of the community, is wide-spread in the media and sadly is a ridiculous opinion shared by some politicians. Equally sadly, many of the public who should know better, are beginning to believe this pernicious and calculated propaganda. It seems that when in a crisis we need a scapegoat and public sector workers appear to be it. Most people nevertheless defend 'front-line workers' but this is a kop-out. All public sector workers are 'front-line' when you need their help.

Nick Wigmore, teacher, Rochdale LEA:

Any public service cuts are to the detriment of those who are most in need - in education it will adversely affect our children; health cuts will affect those whose health and well-being is at its most vulnerable. In public services we are all on the front-line, whether recycling waste, caring for the elderly, or working as project managers in an office.

Charlotte Metters, NASUWT, North West Regional Organiser:

Public sector workers are at the heart of our communities

George Howarth, MP

Claire Traynor, Bargaining Unit Assistant, PCS trade union:

Public Services NOT Private Profit

Helen Andrews, Secretary, Bury NUT:

At a time of economic uncertainty, public services are needed more than ever. Investment, not cuts should be the message.

Steve Hafford, H&S Officer NUT Wirral:

We must protect our rights and secure out position against Brown and his gangsters.

K Donaldson, secretary TSSA LGBT group

Cllr Tim Moore, Councillor - Liverpool City Council:

Public Services are the fabric of our communities. Savage cuts now would cost us jobs and harm the fragile recovery.
I work with people every day who are proud to serve the public. The commitment they show is fantastic.

Karen Bosson, NW Women\\'s Sec CWU:

Public servants; the backbone of our communities.

chris sheehy, Branch President UCU

gillian, equality rep and womens rep cwu

steve farley, PCS national officer:

PCS is fully supportive of the campaign as we know the levels of dedication and commitment workers from all areas of the public sector demonstrate on a daily basis.

Keith Lewis, Project worker: unionlearn:

Proud of our public services and the people who work in them.

Joel Whittle, Equality Officer:

Working in Further Education I fail to see how reducing funding in Education will help the country out of recession

Also as the Public Sector in many towns is the largest employer it will be a disaster for many communities to take money out of local economy
