Jonathon is right to resist the ConDem attempts to turn this in to a public vs private debate.

Many families in the north west rely on both sectors for employment. Furthermore, 64p of every £1 in public sector salaries is spent on goods and services in the private sector so cutting jobs in the civil service, local government, health and education will only lead to consequential job losses in retail, construction and the service industry.

Working men and women are the only ones "all in this together", and a united campaign, starting at the Lib Dem Conference demo in Liverpool on 19th September is essential to avoid a return to the type of devastation our communities faced in the 80's.

So the public sector cuts are having an impact on private enterprise too? Shouldnt this have been a bit obvious to our Government?

I think everyone should be letting the Lib Dem MPs know how they feel about what is happening to public services. They are hypocrites for doing this. I for one will never vote Lib Dem again - they are just as bad as the Tories.

Local focus on these 'infamous 5' should be supported by national focus on 19th September and a massive show of opposition outside the LibDem Conference at Liverpool Arena as organised by the TUC. Hypocrisy is both individual and collective in this power-grabbing party - this is costing ordinary working people their jobs. Do not leave your opposition to others, come to Liverpool on 19th September!

Dont be ridiculous. Public servants are librarians, care assistants, lollipop ladies, lab technicians, hospital porters, classroom assistants, etc, etc. If you think that, at the very least, people's quality of life will not be affected by putting these people on the dole, then you are a complete fool.

This from today's Guardian

The threat of a double-dip recession intensified today after it emerged that Britain's powerhouse services sector saw its growth stall last month, jeopardising hopes of a sustained recovery.

As the Bank of England prepared to announce its latest decision on interest rates tomorrow, a survey of the sector that makes up the bulk of Britain's economic output showed that its growth slipped to its slowest since it emerged from recession a year ago.

Many of the companies surveyed said cancelled public-sector contracts were beginning to hurt their businesses, forcing them to cut jobs and dealing a blow to chancellor George Osborne's hopes of reviving the private sector by reducing public spending.

The gloom was compounded by warnings from leading retailers that consumer spending is cooling off after a strong start to the year amid uncertainty about the economic outlook.

What are we going to do about these cuts though? The Lib Dems can just ignore emails and phone calls. I personally would be prepared to demonstrate outside their constituency offices. Why dont we organise something like that?
