This gives the lie to Ed Miliband's defence to Len McCluskey's Guardian piece this morning. 80,000 job losses during a public sector pay freeze demonstrates that being "responsible" (sic) on pay does nothing to save jobs.

The alternative is investment, job creation and training to secure well paid jobs and create demand. The TUC in highlighting these issues has assumed the role of HM Official Opposition.

I am quite disappointed that the businesses that rely on the new year revellers to make excessive amounts of money, by over charging entry, and increasing prices of food and drinks could not raise the money them selves.

If 100 of these establishments gave £200 each, they would raise the £20,000 required!

It is another example of the private sector wanting to benefit of the back of public sector money, then complaining when they are told otherwise!

In the case study one lady named Val says: “I understand that we all have to make sacrifices because of the economic climate, but people like me feel we are already making sacrifices.
Why havent I read more about this in the local press? Its typical that the leader of six million trade unionists comes to Liverpool and makes a major speech about the economy and there's not a word in the Echo about it.

Stockport College staff has been quite candid, via anonymous comments to the Manchester Evening News reports, in regards to Stockport College's financial demise since January that something is very amiss regarding the legitimacy of this situation. In January, staff had to take a pay cut in order to survive to April, that following 100 workers being made redundant the prior July. Now another 100 workers are being set up for redundancy and all is not as it is being made to appear by management. Here is what we know so far:

•4.9 million pounds was lost on a fraudulent deal extended to an external training provider whilst the first round of redundancies of teaching staff were being made

•As a result, the Chief Financial Manager for Stockport College resigned

•900 Staff (excluding managers) were asked to take a 2% pay cut in January to help the college stay afloat until April

•100 more staff are being made redundant due to a 5 million pound deficit

All true and documented in the sources cited above. People have already lost their jobs because of bad management decisions, but of them, only one manager, the Chief Financial Manager. None of the management took a pay cut and all, so far have been exempt from redundancy. There is a big juicy story here for a hungry investigative reporter rife with fraud, misappropriation, cover-up, and downright contempt for the workforce. I can't imagine why this situation at Stockport College isn't being scrutinised more closely!

Stockport College staff has been quite candid, via anonymous comments to the Manchester Evening News reports, in regards to Stockport College’s financial demise since January that something is very amiss regarding the legitimacy of this situation.
