POLITICIANS must not forget the personal cost of deep cuts in public spending, union leaders have urged.
Hundreds of thousands of working people would lose their jobs and face serious hardship while the services they provide would decline.
And members of the TUC’s General Council have hit out at the ‘unthinking media-driven consensus’ amongst the main parties about the public finances.
They says cuts in public services would lead to massive job losses which would mean less money being paid in tax and more money being paid out in benefits.
The TUC statement questions whether the parties have paid enough attention to clamping down on tax avoidance and evasion, a fairer tax system and policies which will create growth.
